Prof. Patti Massicotte

I am the director of the KIDCLOT, Pediatric Thrombosis Program and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. I trained in research and clinical thrombophilia as a fellow with Drs Jack Hirsh, Jeff Weitz and Maureen Andrew (deceased) at McMaster University, Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics; and received a Master's of Science in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University, Hamilton Canada. I was an investigator and first author of the publications of the only multicenter, multinational randomized clinical trials in children investigating the safety and efficacy of low molecular weight heparin for thromboprophylaxis (PROTEKT) and treatment (REVIVE) in children.

I am co author on the evidence based guidelines for management of thrombophilia in children, CHEST supplements 2004 and 2008 and the American Heart Guidelines "Prevention and Treatment of Thrombosis in Acquired and Congenital Pediatric Heart Disease" (Circulation 2013) I am/have been involved in national and international leadership roles in pediatric thrombosis including Chair of the Pediatric Perinatal Subcommittee of the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, and an organizer of the Harvard conference, the Gordon Conference, for Mechanically Assisted Circulation, and the International Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis 2015 and consultant/co investigator of the NIH/NHLBI funded PumpKIN study (ventricular assist devices in infants and children).
